About
The Tasmanian Ports Corporation Pty Ltd (Tasports) is a registered, private company fully owned by the Tasmanian Government. ABN 82114161938. Tasports is responsible for the operations and management of all ports in Tasmania. The company was created following the amalgamation of the state's four port companies — Hobart Ports Corporation Pty Ltd, Port of Launceston Pty Ltd, Port of Devonport Corporation Pty Ltd and Burnie Port Corporation Pty Ltd on 1 January 2006. Tasports’ purpose is to facilitate trade for the benefit of Tasmania, through the commercial provision of infrastructure and services. We are committed to the following values: - Protect the health and safety of our staff and others affected by our operations. - Provide our customers with a responsive and quality service. - Respect for individuals. - To be trustworthy and honest. - To act fairly with each other in all dealings. - To have courage to do the right thing. Beyond the major ports of Hobart, Bell Bay, Burnie and Devonport, Tasports is also responsible for the management of a number of smaller ports around Tasmania — Triabunna on the east coast, Strahan on the State's west coast, Stanley and Smithton in the north west, and Ports of Grassy and Currie on King Island located about 100 nautical miles off the north west coast. The tourist and fishing village of Strahan is an important part of the west coast's infrastructure. Many thousands of tourists visit the township annually to travel deep into the Gordon River World Heritage Area on modern cruise boats that depart daily from Strahan Wharf. Strahan is also home to a sizeable fishing fleet which fish the waters of the west coast for crayfish and abalone. The Ports of Stanley and Smithton are managed by Tasmania Ports with assistance from a committee comprising local business people. The port is home to a permanent fleet of fishing vessels that fish the waters of Bass Strait and the west coast.
