Don't worry, teachers. CP Kelco has brought enough gum for the entire class. Formed in 2000 by the combination of Hercules' Copenhagen Pectin/Food Gums unit and the Kelco Biopolymers unit of Monsanto/Pharmacia, CP Kelco's products include carrageenan, pectin, gellan gum, xanthan gum, and microparticulated whey protein. The company makes additives used to give food, industrial, personal care, and pharmaceutical products (everything from jam and ketchup to paint and cosmetics) the desired texture, viscosity, and stability. Lehman Brothers and J. M. Huber own 71% and 29% of CP Kelco, respectively. Huber bought its share from Hercules Incorporated in a deal that closed early in 2004.
