The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets promotes and protects agriculture in New York State. In addition, the department ensures the safety of New York's food supply system, to include grocery stores and food processing facilities. The department also is the home of the New York Food Laboratory and the State Veterinarian, who monitors and protects animal health in the state.
