About
The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) is the prudential regulator of the Australian financial services industry. It oversees banks, credit unions, building societies, general and life insurance and reinsurance companies, private health insurance, friendly societies, and most members of the superannuation industry. Our mission is to establish and enforce prudential standards and practices designed to ensure that, under all reasonable circumstances, financial promises made by institutions we supervise are met within a stable, efficient and competitive financial system. APRA is made up of diverse range of highly skilled professionals who are responsible for the prudential supervision of the banks, credit unions, building societies, general insurance and reinsurance companies, life insurance, private health insurance, friendly societies and regulated superannuation funds. We also have teams providing policy, analysis, research and risk management advice, as well as corporate and administration functions.
