For Russell Stover Candies, life "is" a box of chocolates. The largest US maker of boxed chocolates is protecting its sweet position. Faced with growing competition as Hershey and Mars invade the boxed-chocolate arena, it has countered with a chocolate bar by packaging its version of that popular campfire treat -- the s'more (graham cracker, marshmallow, chocolate). It also sells bagged candy, but boxed treats -- especially Whitman's Sampler and Pangburn's Millionaires -- are its main business. For diabetics and others the company offers sugar-free candy, including a sugarless version of Millionaires. The company is owned by the founding Ward family and led by co-presidents and brothers Tom and Scott Ward.
