No one can accuse TRT Holdings of failing to put its energies into the land. After making a fortune from Texas oil and gas holdings, the members of the Rowling family, whose investments are controlled by TRT Holdings, sold their Teco Pipeline and the production arm of their Tana Oil & Gas subsidiary, then focused on their new hotel empire -- Omni Hotels. TRT Holdings acquired the luxury hotel chain in 1996, which has grown to about 40 Omni Hotels (about a fifth are franchised) in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
