The Sheridan Hills Jr. Commodores, the crew of the S.S. Yum Yum, had a great day at the Mpls. Aquatennial Milk Carton Boat Races! After doing research, designing, building, and testing milk carton boat prototypes, the team selected a design and built a full scale boat. The boat was made of 284 milk cartons! Their research and testing resulted in a solid, stable and fast boat. It was a big day for the kids. Some of them had never paddled a boat or had never even been in a boat! They cooperated well, and paddled hard, and won their heat! They went on to the finals,and paddled much more in synch for the finals. They won the Lieutentant's Race...first place in the under 12 division! The S.S. Yum Yum Crew was five Sheridan Hills students who were led by GT teacher Mrs. Shelia Johnston. The milk carton boat project was part on a fourth and fifth grade ERC science and engineering unit.Richfield Public Schools Address
