About
Lithion Recycling has developed an efficient and cost-effective process for recycling lithium-ion batteries, the most widely used batteries for electrical vehicles and portable electronics today. This new process allows up to 95% of these batteries’ components to be recovered and treated so that they can be reused by battery manufacturers—a concrete way to close the loop on battery life-cycle. Lithion Recycling is aiming for a worldwide commercialization of its technology, which began with the construction of a pilot plant in 2019 and will continue with its first commercial project in Quebec, Canada in 2023. The technology put forward by Lithion Recycling uses an innovative combination of hydro- and electrometallurgy-based extraction processes. The result is a low-carbon process generating zero effluent. The plants operating this technology will be very compact, modular, and affordable.
