Samueli Academy is a public, charter high school started by Orangewood Foundation that serves foster and community youth. Samueli Academy offers educationally under-served communities a new choice for the high school education of their teens.
Samueli Academy positions students for future college and career success. It offers them a unique educational opportunity including eight educational best practices:
1. STEAM curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math)
2. Project-based learning
3. Work-based learning
4. Engineering and design pathways
5. Small class sizes (approximately 20 students per class)
6. Small student body (approximately 500 in grades 9-12)
7. A Chromebook for each student
8. Caring staff focused on the “whole†student
Now in its fourth year of operation, the Academy has 500 students in grades 9-12. Based on recent nationwide test scores in English and math, Samueli Academy students are outperforming their peers both in Orange County and statewide. In English, 81% of our students met or exceeded the standard, while in math (a subject in which 80% of our students arrive one or more grade level behind) 45% met or exceeded the standard.
