About
The mission of the Arts & Business Council of Chicago (A&BC) is to develop leadership, the business of the arts, and the art of business of Chicago. It does this by building working relationships between arts organizations and highly-skilled business professionals; providing training in all aspects of arts management and nonprofit board governance; highlighting research on the field’s leading and emerging issues; and working to make Chicago a more culturally vibrant—and culturally equitable—city. Over its 34-year history, A&BC has partnered with the private sector to provide arts organizations with more than 300 board members and over $10 million in pro bono consulting services. Over 600 unique organizations have benefited from A&BC’s services, all throughout Chicago, since its inception. Today, A&BC’s clients cover the gamut of arts nonprofits—those with no staff, inexperienced boards, and limited resources to the larger, more established organizations—as well as budget sizes ranging from $20,000 to over $1M. A&BC is an affiliate of Americans for the Arts and the fiscal agent of ArtCore, a non-merging collaborative partnership between A&BC, See Chicago Dance, and Chicago Cultural Alliance.
