Dynamic was founded in 1954 in Hammond, Indiana making braking resistors for Electro-Motive Division (EMD) of General Motors in the export market. It moved in 1962 to Lafayette as a result of rapid growth and in 1983, Dynamic introduced domestic resistors for both EMD and General Electric locomotives. Dynamic Corporation became the supplier of resistors for all new GE locomotives in 1986 and started producing resistors for the transit and AC locomotive markets in 1993 and 1994. Dynamic became certified to the ISO 9001 quality standard in 1997. Dynamic was purchased in 1999 by Amsted Industries, an industrial manufacturer serving three major markets: railroad, construction and building, and general industrial. In 2000, Dynamic was acquired by Dayton-Phoenix Group, Inc.
