The mission of Chess in the Schools is to foster the intellectual and social development of low-income youth through chess education.
Each year we teach chess to 6,000 children in low-income communities in Title I New York City public schools. We run 25 free chess tournaments, and provide a college prep program for 100 high school students.
Chess teaches the essential skills of problem-solving, critical thinking, strategy, focus, patience, sportsmanship, resilience, and more.
Our program receive top ratings from schools, teachers, and third-party evaluators. 100% of our high school students succeed in graduating from high school on-time, and 96% matriculate to college.
