About
Mission: The Children’s Museum of the Upstate sparks a lifelong passion for curiosity and learning through play. Vision: To be a leader in innovative family activities, a dynamic learning center and a compelling community attraction. About the Museum: At 80,000 square feet, TCMU is the 7th largest children's museum in the country and 10th largest in the world. Conveniently located in downtown Greenville on the cultural campus of Heritage Green, visitors experience 19+ state-of-the-art exhibits on three levels with more than 100 different activities related to the arts, science, health, nutrition and the environment. TCMU was the first Children's Museum to become an affiliate with the Smithsonian Institution. History: The Children’s Museum began with one mother’s wish to create a place in Upstate South Carolina where children would be inspired and learn in an informal, hands-on environment. In December 2003, local benefactors donated the former Greenville County Library building and the surrounding land for a children's museum and plans for The Children’s Museum of The Upstate began to take shape. On July 31, 2009 , the museum opened. Since then, TCMU has been committed to serving the needs and interests of all children by providing experiences that stimulate curiosity, stir the imagination and develop a lifelong love of learning.
