About
Located in Dubuque, Iowa, The Hodge Company was established in 1958 by Walter J. Hodge. Initially as Hodge Transit Warehouse Company its purpose was to provide public warehousing and distribution services to regional and national manufacturers. The company experienced steady growth through the 1960's and 1970's and in the early 1980's was operating distribution services out of approximately 500,000 square feet of warehouse space. The need for properly maintained forklift equipment was never a bigger issue for Hodge than in the late 70's and early 80's. Operating approximately 30 forklifts over two shifts it was imperative that there be reliability and expedient service in the event of a breakdown. This was not the case. After trying several vendors and even offering free shop space to an out of town vendor to locate in Dubuque, Hodge was forced to add it's own internal forklift maintenance personnel. It soon became apparent that there were other local companies who were experiencing the same frustrations with forklift service so a word of mouth marketing effort was initialized to expand the internal forklift service to a full forklift sales and service distributorship. Komatsu Forklift granted a distributorship to the newly established Hodge Material Handling in 1982 followed by Baker Material Handling in 1984. By 1985 the decision was made to expand from a strictly forklift sales and service distributor to a complete allied products distributorship. Interlake pallet rack, Torbeck mezzanines and A-Wall in-plant offices were among the first allied lines to be carried at Hodge Material Handling. Today the active vendor list is over 300. In 1992 Hodge Material Handling branched further into the material handling industry with the addition of a loading dock equipment sales and service department. 1998 brought the addition of Kelley Dock Equipment to further strengthen the department. In 2001 Hodge material Handling opened a branch distributorship in Bettendorf IA to better serve existing and potential customers in the Quad Cities area. TM Inc. was established in 1985 as a subsidiary of Hodge Transit Warehouse Company. Initially, its purpose was to provide sub-assemblies for local manufacturers. Today TM Inc., while maintaining the original value added manufacturing services has expanded into such areas as local courier services, distribution labor services, and most notably, a new company established in 1994 called Infosafe. Infosafe is a document and records management company specializing in hard copy records storage, climate controlled computer and magnetic media storage, secured document destruction and on-site records shredding. In the year 2000, Walter Development, LLC was established as a real estate development company specializing in build-to-suit facilities. Walter Development offers short and long-term building leases from 10,000 to 100,000 square feet.
