About
StarMark Cabinetry is created with both hardwoods and softwoods. Each type has characteristics that make it a better choice for specific jobs. Spruce, pine and fir are just some of the species classified as softwoods. Shorter growing times give faster yields and a wood that is easy to work with for a wide variety of product including paper products, structural and dimensional lumber, and composite panels. Hardwoods include oak, maple, cherry, hickory and alder. Hardwoods have a long maturity rate from new growth to harvest. This results in stronger, denser woods with unique graining and color, perfect for fine furniture and cabinetry that will last generations. For the past forty years, both softwood and hardwood new growth in the US has exceeded its harvest, they are sustainable. Besides supplying wood to create long lasting, not disposable, cabinets, sustainable forests benefit our environment many ways. There is zero depletion of forestland as a resource, and low and fully recoverable impact on habitats and ecosystems. A sustainable forest has a positive impact on "greenhouse" gasses, absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. In the U.S., State and Federal laws regulate the harvest of trees on publicly owned lands to achieve sustainability. Softwood and hardwood suppliers in North America recognize the need for thoughtful use of forest resources. Not all regions of the world that supply wood products have in place the stringent laws and the corporate philosophies necessary to achieve must-have sustainability. North American forest products are a smart, green choice, smart for StarMark and smart for the environment.
