Denton County is located on the north side of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Denton County was established by the Texas legislature on April 11, 1846. As of the 2010 census, its population was 662,614 and is one of the fastest growing counties in the United States. Denton County has a total area of 951.54 square miles. As of 2013, Denton County has 1,490 employees and 38 elected officials. Denton County has the lowest county-wide tax rate of the top 15 counties by population in the State of Texas.
