Alex E. Paris Contracting Company was founded in 1928 by Alex Paris, an Italian immigrant. The company began working on WPA projects doing primarily road building. The company later ventured into the coal mining industry and during the 1930s, 1940s, and early 1950s ran a large coal mining operation. During the late 1950s Alex Paris, Sr. was succeeded by his son Emanuel, who took the company from the mining industry into the underground utility business.
