optiMize is a student-led social innovation movement. We are more than 2000 students and mentors, all working to address social and environmental challenges while creating models for sustainable impact. We believe college is a time to take action on projects we're passionate about, whether that means urban farming, inclusive education, or virtual reality. We cultivate a supportive community for students and mentors to work toward a just and sustainable world. The optiMize Challenge incubates student projects. The Challenge is a 6-month program that helps you start and sustain your work. With the right mentorship and peer support, we believe anyone can turn their ideas into impact. No prior experience necessary! The optiMize Fellowship provides up to $20,000. If you complete the Challenge, you'll pitch to receive enough funding to spend a summer working full-time on your project. Our model is student-led, staff-supported, and volunteer-engaging. optiMize was founded as a student organization in 2012. In 2014, the University of Michigan hired our founders to create and direct its first department for Social Innovation. Our model has become a partnership: student leaders collaborate with full-time staff on everything we do, and we're all supported by an amazing group of volunteers, alumni, and donors!
