About
Founded in 1911 and formally incorporated in 1917, the YWCA South Hampton Roads is the oldest and largest multicultural women's organization in the region. As an affiliate of the YWCA USA, the organization works locally to implement the mission of the national network: Eliminating Racism, Empowering Women. During our first 100 years of service to the community, the YWCA South Hampton Roads has served over a quarter of a million women and children in the region. Today, we combine programming and advocacy in order to generate institutional change in three key areas: racial justice and civil rights, empowerment and economic advancement of women and girls, and health a safety of women and girls. The hallmark programs of the YWCA South Hampton Roads include our: Emergency Shelter and Housing Programs, Sexual Assault Support Service Programs and Counseling Center, 24-Hour Crisis Response Hotline, Out-of-School-Time Services and Racial Justice Initiatives. The goal of programs offered by the YWCA is to provide services for all individuals, particularly those who are most vulnerable in our neighborhoods and communities. During each fiscal year, the organization provides program services to approximately 11,300 individuals.
