South Central Indiana REMC focuses on youth in our service community through various sponsored programs. These programs afford members an opportunity to take advantage of the following programs: John D. Rudd Memorial Scholarship Program: This scholarship program, established in May, 2005, was named for a former SCI REMC Operation RoundUp trustee who had special interest in the arts, athletics, parks and recreation and a particular focus on our youth. The intent of the scholarship program is to encourage graduating senior students to further their education. This program, funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of the members of SCI REMC, will provide up to five (5) $1,000 scholarships each year. The program is open to all SCI REMC residents of Brown, Clay, Johnson, Monroe, Morgan, Owen and Putnam counties who meet the criteria established by the Operation RoundUp trustees. Selection of recipients is based on academics, school activities, community activities, and work experience. Click here to view/download a scholarship application for 2009. Deadline is February 27, 2009. Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.: SCI REMC participates in the Touchstone Energy Youth Tour which allows your teenager to visit our nation's capitol and learn about the government and electric cooperatives. While in Washington, Youth Tour delegates visit landmarks such as Arlington National Cemetery, Capitol Hill, the U.S. Supreme court, the Lincoln, Jefferson and Vietnam memorials, and several museums. On Capitol Hill, Indiana's delegation will visit with their local Congressman and take a tour of the Capital building that includes a visit to the U.S. House of Representatives Gallery. This all expense paid experience is available to SCI REMC member's whose teen would meet the requirements. This program is geared to high school juniors. Deadline is March 20, 2009. Role Model Program: SCI REMC along with other area cooperatives, participate in the IHSAA Role Model Program where one high school athlete from each high school is chosen to represent their school in a positive light encouraging a drug free environment. Posters and pocket schedules with the athlete's photo are distributed at the participating schools. Each school's athlete director helps choose the student representative.
