Welcome to the page for the 7th Judicial District of Kansas, the District Court of Douglas County.
The District Court is divided into seven divisions. District judges preside over Divisions 1 through 6, and a pro tem judge presides over the Pro Tem Division. Cases are assigned as follows:
Division 1 – Judge Amy Hanley: major and limited civil; domestic; and protection from abuse/stalking
Division 2 – Judge Sally D Pokorny: criminal; family law; and protection from abuse/stalking
Division 3 – Judge Barbara K Huff: criminal; major and limited civil; care and treatment; and protection from abuse/stalking
Division 4 – Judge James R McCabria: major and limited civil; care and treatment; small claims appeals; and protection from abuse/stalking
Division 5 – Judge Paula B Martin: criminal; major and limited civil; care and treatment; traffic appeals
Division 6 – Chief Judge Peggy C Kittel: criminal; children in need of care; care and treatment; protection from abuse/stalking; adoptions
Pro Tem Division – Judge James T George: criminal first appearances; juvenile offender; child support modification; traffic; and small claims
The court administrator supervises and coordinates the administrative functions and operations of the district court, supervises and directs the activities of non-judicial employees of the court and performs other duties that are designated by the chief judge, required by law or by the state Judicial Administrator.
The Clerk of the Court is the official custodian of all court records. The office issues processes including summons, subpoenas and warrants, as well as post-judgment process enforcing court mandates. The clerk is also responsible for jury management and acting as the treasurer for the Michael J Malone Douglas County Law Library.
