About
Armacell is the successor company to the former insulation products division of Armstrong World Industries and was founded in June 2000 as a management buyout. As an independent company with financially strong investors Armacell has been expanding into new markets since 2000. Apart from strengthening its position in the market for insulation materials - here Armacell is the world leader in the flexible technical insulation sector - the company has set up a new division which manufactures and markets foam plastics for a wide variety of applications. Armacell International GmbH, the holding company for companies and sales offices operating worldwide, is based in Münster, Germany. The company is owned by Investcorp International Ltd., a globally active investment company and members of Armacell's management. Today, Armacell has 2,300 employees and produces at 20 plants in 13 countries on four continents. In 2005, the company had a consolidated annual turnover of 350 million euros, thus achieving record turnover in the history of the company. With production facilities in China, Thailand, India and Brazil Armacell was able to open up new geographical markets early on and thus offset economic losses in the German market. In markets where Armacell does not have its own factories, sales offices and distributors complete a sales network which is unique in this line of business. In Germany, Armacell produces at three locations: in Münster, with 430 employees the largest production facility worldwide; in Zeulenroda (Thuringia) and in Friesenhofen (Allgäu). Half a century ago, when the company developed the first flexible insulation product Armaflex, it founded a new branch of industry, flexible technical insulation, which it has been shaping ever since. The company has contributed greatly to the professionalization of this line of business and as a technology leader has set industry standards throughout the world. All significant innovations in the field of flexible technical insulation materials have come from Armacell. Against the backdrop of rising energy prices and stricter energy-saving laws to achieve the objectives of the Kyoto protocol, the insulation of building equipment and industrial installations will play an even more important role in the future. Armacell also uses its 50 years of experience in foam technology for innovative, new products in other fields of application. Due to the enormous variety and numerous possible applications of the materials, foam plastics have developed considerably over the last years. Armacell products are used in the automotive, packaging, construction and electronic industries, in the sport and leisure sector and as composite foams in a multitude of applications. As in the technical insulation division, Armacell has also been able to establish strong brands in the new segments. After various acquisitions in the USA, Armacell greatly strengthened its position on the European market for technical foams by taking over Belgian Fagerdala Benelux S.A. in 2005. The two business units have a stimulating effect on each other: customers of both divisions benefit from achievements in research and development, optimizations in production technology, new types of rubber and an extended product portfolio. Armacell is a dynamic, flexible company whose maxim is to guarantee customer satisfaction and quality in all corporate divisions. The potential of its employees makes Armacell a company which can learn fast, and which is not only committed to its customers and other business partners, but also to the environment. In the future too, Armacell will continue to stand for what has characterized the company for 100 years: being partners to its business partners, technical excellence and sustainable business development.
