About
Tracing its roots back to 1548, Bradford Grammar School, Yorkshire, is ‘The Sunday Times Northern Independent School of the Year 2018’, providing an ‘outstanding education’ (ISI) for more than 1,100 girls and boys aged six to 18. Pupils from diverse backgrounds are happy, valued and encouraged to flourish in an academic environment designed to inspire them to reach their full potential and equip them for life in a global society.\n\nThe school has exceptional public examination results. In 2018 we had outstanding A Level results with 17% of all exams awarded A* and 54% A*/A grades. 126 talented students picked up their GCSE results, as the school celebrated another rise in top grades. A record-breaking 76% of all exams taken were awarded A/A* or 9-7 grades, well over three times higher than the national average of recent years (Pupils at BGS take a mixture of IGCSEs and GCSEs, graded either 9-1 or A*-G). The A/A* / 9-7 cumulative pass rate was the highest ever at Bradford Grammar School and A*ABC is 99%.\n\nA broad curriculum, which includes Latin, Russian and Electronics, is supported by excellent pastoral care. Extensive facilities including workshops, laboratories, a 25m swimming pool, sports’ pavilion, all weather sports’ pitch, squash and tennis courts, recording studio, music auditorium, state of the art library and the Hockney Theatre. \n\nPupils can choose from over 50 clubs and societies, from rowing and orienteering, to war games, debating and chess. \n\nFormer pupils include artist David Hockney, Denis Healey, Olympic champions Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, Adrian Moorhouse MBE and actress Georgie Henley.
