Alternatives, Inc. is a non-profit corporation founded in 1979 as the AAMH (Association for the Advancement of Mentally Handicapped). It was a pioneer in the central New Jersey area in helping individuals with developmental disabilities live in communities rather than institutions. Since its founding, Alternatives, Inc. has reached out to serve other populations: the mentally ill, homeless, teens at risk and others with special needs.
