Gateway to Hope is a breast cancer lifeline. Our mission is to secure comprehensive care and provide financial assistance for individuals in need diagnosed with or at high risk for developing breast cancer. David Caplin, MD, a reconstructive surgeon, and Marlys Schuh, MD, a surgical oncologist, founded Gateway to Hope in 2005 after witnessing needless suffering and in some cases death of breast cancer patients who delayed treatment because they had no insurance.
Every patient who contacts Gateway to Hope is given personal attention immediately and throughout their treatment regimen. We alleviate our patients’ emotional stress; reduce their financial burden and offer hope and healing. As the need for social service assistance has increased, Gateway to Hope has evolved into a truly inclusive organization addressing not only a patient’s medical health but also their emotional and financial well-being. Going forward, Gateway to Hope will continue to adapt to address the landscape of a changing health care system and will diversify its services to better align with its various constituents including Gateway to Hope patients, donors, partners and volunteers.
