About
Our mission is to empower individuals with limited resources on their path to self-sufficiency through skills instruction, on-the-job training in our social enterprises, and assistance with establishing a career in the food industry. The Bread Project provides technical job training programs in Bakery Production. In addition, each program includes soft skills instruction and placement assistance, supporting trainees as they transition and grow into new careers. We are committed to social enterprise as a core tool to achieve our mission. Social enterprise (i.e., businesses subsumed within our nonprofit structure which are managed to produce financial and programmatic goals) contributes to training by providing essential on-the-job experience in our cafe, catering service and wholesale bakery, while enhancing our financial sustainability through mission-driven earned income. Our program structure and focus on food industry employment is designed to address both the needs of our trainees and the large number of unfilled food production job opportunities. Although other workforce development programs also target the food industry, our bakery production training program is unique in the Bay Area. To enhance recruitment, placement, and retention, we work collaboratively with other community organizations to connect trainees with wrap-around services and supports.
