Innovations in material science and construction technology have led to the development of a new type of concrete material utilizing polyester polymer resin instead of cementitious materials. Polyester Polymer Concrete (PPC) overlays are an engineered composite material combining polyester polymer resin and specialty aggregates that is designed to be placed on bridge decks. PPC Overlays can last up to 30 years under heavy traffic scenarios and provide a return to service within only 2 hours of placement. High friction surface treatment (HFST) is an emerging technology that dramatically and immediately reduces crashes and the related injuries and fatalities. With friction demands far exceeding conventional pavement friction, high-quality aggregate is applied to existing or potential high-crash areas to help motorists maintain better control in dry and wet driving conditions.
