About
The Plastic Soup Foundation (PSF) is a non-profit organization that wants to bring a halt to the increasing plastic pollution of marine environments. The intent of the PSF is to staunchly prevent more plastic ending up at sea. Change at a global level is needed to achieve this. The current unsustainable system of plastic production and consumption must be replaced by a sustainable system using alternative materials and by developing renewable products. More and more plastic waste is ending up in our oceans and seas. Due to the effects of weathering, sunlight and wave action, this plastic is reduced to smaller particles, transforming ocean water into a global microplastic soup, or plastic soup. In addition, toxins are released from the plastics. All sorts of organisms living in or off the sea - even the smallest of zooplankton - mistakenly take in plastic debris and microplastic for food. The PSF wants to contribute to ending plastic pollution of the oceans by the promotion of: international cooperation, projects by and with leading enterprises, and dissemination of good practices for sustainable solutions. In addition, through (social) media and dissemination of independent information, PSF puts pressure on industry and governments to realize true change. Running campaigns include: Beat the Microbead, Ocean Clean Wash, My Little Plastic Footprint, Trash Hunters, Plastic Soup Health, Schone Rivieren, Corporate Plastic Footprint, Look for the Zero, and Plastic Soup Junior.
