About
The Wairarapa District Health Board was created on January 1, 2001 after the Government passed legislation to change the way the health sector worked, to promote decentralised accountability for the health status of each area. There are currently 20 DHBs in New Zealand. Each of the DHBs are required to plan and deliver services regionally, as well as in their own individual areas in order to improve, promote and protect the health of the populations they serve. The Wairarapa DHB works closely with the DHBs in the central north island region. In particular new health service models are being implemented in cooperation with Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast DHBs under what are coined, 2DHB and 3DHB programmes. Wairarapa DHB and Hutt Valley DHB share a common Chief Executive and Executive Leadership Team.
