The Eliot School inspires lifelong learning in craftsmanship and creativity for all. It sends artisans and artists into classrooms throughout Boston, teaching young people in Grades K-8 in schools and community centers. It also offers classes for all ages in two Jamaica Plain locations, Eliot Street and Amory Street. These classes, in woodworking and furniture, sewing and fashion, fiber arts, book arts, painting, drawing, photography and mixed media, reach people of all ages and all walks of life.
A teen program, annual Artist in Residence program, occasional talks, exhibitions and other events round out the schools program.
Founded as a grammar school in 1676, the Eliot School turned its focus in the late 19th century to the manual arts. It is known for its excellent faculty, welcoming atmosphere and small class size.
