In 1972, Matthew Polk and his friend George Klopfer were graduates of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. They shared a love of music and high-end audio gadgetry, and were both of a certain scientific bent. So that year they set out to build loudspeakers by applying scientific design principles to speaker construction. The small start-up soon found success by focusing on home loudspeakers with an emphasis on quality and affordability. "Right from the very beginning of the company, our mission was to put high-end sound into the homes of regular people. Although we enjoyed the high-end audio gear as much as any foaming-at-the-mouth audiophile, we really saw our mission in providing excellent sounding speakers at reasonable prices to regular people." Today, Polk Audio is one of the world's most successful brands of high quality home, car and multimedia loudspeakers. Polk Audio's tradition of thorough R&D has yielded over 45 patents for improvements in loudspeaker technology and performance, and Polk speakers constantly earn the praise of audio experts the world over. Plus, we keep getting great awards for impressive performance and innovative, high-quality design.
