The Krystal Company is a fast-food gem of the South. The company's chain of nearly 420 restaurants in almost a dozen southern states are known for their petite, square hamburgers (what Northerners might call a slider). In addition, Krystal's menu includes chicken sandwiches (Krystal Chik), chili, corn dogs, breakfast sandwiches, and dessert items. Krystal also sells its burgers through several grocery chains. The company owns and operates nearly 250 of its locations; the rest are franchised. Krystal is owned by Port Royal Holdings, which is 25% controlled by former CEO Philip Sanford. The chain got its start in 1932 when R.B. Davenport, Jr. and J. Glenn Sherrill opened up shop in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
