For thousands of years, bands (small tribes) of Wintun people dwelled along the waters of Cache Creek in the serene Capay Valley and thrived off the bounty of the land. After being forcibly removed from ancestral land, the tide is beginning to turn for the members of the Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians. Since 1985, the Tribe has operated the Cache Creek Indian Bingo and Casino in Brooks, Calif. Tribal gaming presents a unique opportunity for economic self-determination and independence; no member of the Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians receives government financial assistance.
