About
Sunshine Developmental School began in 1985 with an educational facility in Queens, serving children with special needs. The program began with enrollment of twelve children. Sunshine Developmental School and Sunshine School now serves approximately 500 children in a variety of programs such as Center-Based Special Education, Integrated Services, Day Care, Inclusionary Programs at sites in Brooklyn and Queens, as well as Evaluation Services. We believe that all children deserve the opportunity to grow to their full intellectual, emotional and physical potential. The school provides a success oriented, supportive and nurturing environment, within a developmental learning center model. We strive to provide a balance of teacher-directed and hands-on independent activities designed to meet the individual needs of each child. All activities are conducted in a safe, comfortable, structured and stimulating environment. Sunshine Developmental School guides the development of children, three to five years of age, who have special needs. We are a center-based preschool and offer both full- and half-day programs, mornings or afternoons. Our staff members speak a variety of languages to meet the needs of our culturally diverse population. We are state-approved for bilingual classes in Spanish, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi. Additional languages spoken by staff members include: French, Creole, Bengali and Hebrew.
