Providence Englewood Charter School (PECS) is a kindergarten through 8th grade charter school serving almost 500 students in the Englewood community. Our purpose is to prepare the students who attend PECS for a successful high school career, continuing through college and beyond. In the often dangerous neighborhood of Englewood, PECS provides a safe learning environment. PECS students are representative of the community in which we are located: 99% are African American and Latino and 92% qualify for free/reduced lunch.
When PECS first opened its doors in August 2006 it was a K-5 school serving 196 students. These past ten years have seen transformational growth and success. We have expanded to include 6th, 7th, and 8th grade and have graduated over 125 students into some of Chicago’s top performing high schools such as Gwendolyn Brooks, Noble Street, St Ignatius, Lake Forest Academy, and Whitney Young.
