The Way Back, Inc. is a non-profit organization which operates community based transitional residential facilities for men and women ages 18 and over who have a primary psychiatric diagnosis. Founded in 1980, we are one of the oldest mental health housing providers on Long Island and in New York State. The Agency is licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health.
It is the mission of The Way Back to provide the resources to help people with psychiatric disabilities reintegrate into the community and to assist them with their recovery. The agency provides rehabilitative housing services and staff support as a primary mechanism for achieving these goals.Â
We encourage the full participation of residents in their rehabilitation process so they may realize their potential of living productively, cohesively, and happily within the community. The agency also recognizes its advocacy role and remains ever vigilant in protecting the rights and needs of the people it serves.
The primary emphasis of the program at The Way Back is to prepare residents to live independently in the community. Our program teaches residents the skills needed to successfully live outside the community residence structure. A willingness to participate in the rehabilitative goal planning process is required.
