Adelphi University is a private institution governed by a 30-member Board of Trustees which is charged with oversight of the fiscal and policy matters of the University. Currently, 80 percent of the board is composed of alumni, who participate on nine standing committees. Responsibilities of trustees include hiring the president, approval of the annual operating and capital budgets, assessing academic programs and faculty hiring and promotion decisions, monitoring of the financial controls, review of facilities plans and budgets and review of legal and contractual obligations, investment decisions and asset allocations. The University’s president is an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees and, along with the chair, is a member of all standing committees.
