As of 2000, University of California Santa Barbara's Department of Geography had 23 faculty, 23 staff, nearly 200 undergraduates and 100 graduate students. At the last ranking (in 1995), the National Research Council rated the department Number 4 in the nation. Between 1990 and 2000, Geography had received more extra mural research funds than any other department on campus and more faculty awards than any other Geography department nationwide.
