The company supplies maps and proximity information to consumers through its Web site, and also offers services to businesses (serving about 1,400 global organizations), and to travel guides and map publishers (it prints more than 1.5 billion maps a year). MapQuest.com's content can also be downloaded to wireless devices made by such providers as Sprint, Verizon, and Cingular. MapQuest.com is a subsidiary of America Online, itself a division of media giant Time Warner. The company got its start in 1967 as GeoSystems Global Corporation, the cartographic unit of R.R. Donnelley & Sons.
