Moor House is a Special school working with children with Severe Speech and Language Impairment. This is as common as Dyslexia yet not widely known. Our teams of Speech & Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists work closely with the teaching staff to help them develop. One father said,
They come in lacking self-confidence, broken in spirit, almost illiterate, often the victim of years of bullying and viewing themselves as failures with no future. Within a few weeks, they blossom as everyone at the school understands exactly what their language disabilities are and how to help them. They have friends for the first time as their peers all have similar difficulties. They find themselves succeeding for the first time in their lives and they believe that they have a future.
Moor House is one of only a few schools like it and our children come from across the South East of England and beyond. Because of this many of the children are residential, going home only at weekends. This means that we need to provide them with all the comforts that you would expect at home.
We have recently opened the school to day students, as well as opening a Sixth Form. This means that the school is growing, so we not only need to replace old equipment we also have to provide for the increasing numbers of children.
