What Is Yorwaste?
We are the biggest waste management company in North Yorkshire. Owned by North Yorkshire County Council and City of York Council, we manage over half a million tonnes of waste per year and carry out 450,000 collections. We also employ over 300 staff. Our guiding principal is to provide customers with sustainable, innovative and economical waste management solutions. In addition, we provide excellent customer service. One of our major strengths is that we offer a comprehensive collection service. Furthermore, we have a wide range of local in-house waste processing solutions. Hence, this uniquely provides our customers with uncomplicated and transparent audit trails. These waste processing solutions include industrial & commercial material recycling facilities, inert materials recycling, production of secondary aggregates and composted products. In addition we provide green waste composting, wood recycling, liquid waste treatment (including gulley and sweeper wastes) and renewable energy generation. Our fleet of vehicles utilise the latest onboard technology, including safety cameras. This is because we recognise our own role in safeguarding our community. We have a sister company, SJB Recycling, which is one of the UK’s largest providers of green waste composting services. We produce a peat-free compost called Yorganics. Made to the national PAS100 standard, it is available from stockists across North Yorkshire. In addition, we also have an environmental body, Yorventure, which distributes grants from money generated through landfill tax payments. Hundreds of projects have benefited, to the tune of £17 million, during the 17 years that Yorventure and Yorwaste have been working in partnership.
