Our fullest humanity lies not in our laws, but in our stories. YKR is a New York City-based performance piece where South Asian/Indo Caribbean people experiencing gender oppression share our powerful and authentic stories that are often silenced or ignored. Our stories are as diverse as we are, touching on topics of sexuality, violence, gender, families, love, passion, and the frustrations of dealing with body hair. Our unique, community-based production brings together people with extensive acting experience and those who are new to the stage, creating a braver, supported space for developing our narratives. The performance is just a part of what you are supporting - what you are really supporting is a movement to empower people in their own identities and in building a continuing community. The cast goes on to share their stories in multiple ways: through writing, performing, and in one case creating a one-woman show! YKR has had three incredibly successful, sold-out years in New York City. We are thrilled to bring it back for its fourth year in 2018! YKR is an updated spin on Yoni ki Baat, originally inspired by Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues.
