What Is Xylome Corporation?

Xylome specializes in adaptive solutions that enable first-generation biofuel producers to implement second generation biofuel technologies Xylome is a start-up biotechnology company based in Madison, Wisconsin. It was founded with the primary goal of making novel cellulosic fermentation technology available to independent grain ethanol producers. Xylome’s competitive advantage is that it is the only company in the U.S. with resilient, efficient technology for converting stillage, cellulosic and hemicellulosic sugars into lipids by novel lipogenic yeasts. Xylome’s highly engineered organisms have wide substrate capacities and are capable of making diverse products. Their inherent genetic stability, high capacity for lipid production, capacity to resist contamination, minimal nutritional requirements and resilience make them particularly suitable for commercial use. Xylome can provide and support a technology package that allows ethanol producers to diversify their feedstocks and expand their business into second-generation cellulosic biodiesel and other higher value products. Xylome’s fermentation technology has been cleared for commercial production by the EPA and its highly pure, environmentally sustainable, palm oil substitute is suitable for pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food use. The National Science Foundation awarded Xylome Corporation $750,000 to develop a “Novel bioprocess for lipid production from industrial byproducts”. The highly successful grant ran through September, 2019 and was succeeded by a commercialization grant of $1.35 million from the Department of Energy to expand the substrate range from soluble sugars to pretreated cellulosic and hemicellulosic fiber. Xylome Corporation strives to create the next generation of sustainable, renewable, clean burning, high energy density, transportation biofuels, chemicals and food supplements from industrial waste products.
