What Is Winter Gardens Quality Foods?

Naturally, the Bross family's road to success hasn't always been easy. But as this brief history will show, the long years of hard work are paying off, with the positives of a family business far outweighing the negatives. It all began with Winter Gardens, a small building in New Oxford, PA. that was purchased by Thomas Bross Jr. in 1946. When Bross bought it, it was being used as a locker plant, but almost immediately half of the building (some 1,500 square feet) was converted into a grocery store. A butcher operation soon followed, with freshly dressed beef and pork being prepared "in back" and sold over the counter. As Winter Gardens became better known around the area, its business increased steadily-- and so did its staff. By 1952 there were 30 Winter Gardens employees, and enough demand for fresh poultry and prepared foods to build a processing plant on site.
