What Is WiSE Specialist Emergency?
Unlike Emergency Departments that operate within public hospitals and some private hospitals, a Walk-in Specialist Emergency Clinic is located in the community and designed to provide comprehensive, coordinated acute care – from initial consultation and diagnostic services, to treatment and specialist referral if required – without the patient having to visit a hospital.\n\nThe first WiSE Clinic opened in Macquarie Park - North Ryde in early 2017, delivering immediate medical care when accidents or emergencies require more than a GP visit and are considered non-life threatening or unlikely to require admission to hospital\n\nWiSE Clinic in Macquarie Park is a walk-in centre equipped with 15 emergency physicians, and a network of specialists, on call.\n\nThe centre, which opened on January 15, aims to cater for patients with non-life threatening conditions who need urgent care.\n\n“It gives us immediate access to those results when they come up,” Dr Ciaran Ferguson told 9NEWS.\n\n“It allows us to make good decisions early for appropriate treatment.”\n\nWiSE Clinic offers blood testing, pathology and x-ray facilities to avoid referrals and fast-track results.\n\nCT scan and ultrasounds are also available.\n\nMore than 70 percent of people who go to hospital emergency departments never get admitted, according to the Sydney North Health Network.\n\nSydney father John Gill told 9NEWS his daughter, Elly, received treatment at WiSE after suffering a stomach bug last week.\n\n“She was really sick and I was very concerned,” Mr Gill said.\n\n“I didn’t want to go to normal emergency where you have to wait hours.”\n\n\nPatients admitted to the WiSE Clinic will pay a single flate-rate of $260 on the day of admission.\n\nThe fee is not covered by Medicare or private health funds.\n\n\nRead more at http://www.9news.com.au/national/2017/02/08/19/33/walkin-emergency-clinic-with-specialist-care-launched-in-sydney#dcBeW0qhzVIxUjWk.99
