Whamcloud is a division of DDN that has been formed to expand the market for the Lustre parallel filesystem. The name is a homage to the Lustre-centric startup that operated between 2010 and 2012. Many of the Whamcloud engineering team worked for that entity at that time and today's Whamcloud shares many of the same ideals and goals - and adapting Lustre to meet the evolving requirements of high performance storage solutions.
