What Is Wegmans?
One name strikes fear in the hearts of supermarket owners in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey: Wegmans Food Markets. The grocery chain owns about 65 stores, but they are hardly typical. Much larger than most supermarkets (up to 120,000 sq. ft.), they offer specialty shops such as huge in-store cafes, cheese shops with some 400 different varieties, and French-style pastry shops with exotic desserts.
