Washoe County State of Nevada Revenue and Competitors

Washoe County is a county located in Northern Nevada. It was created on April 25, 1861 as one of the original nine counties of the Nevada Territory. It is named after the Washo people who originally inhabited the area. As of the 2010 census, its population is 421,407. Its county seat is Reno and it includes the Reno-Sparks metropolitan area. It is home to the University of Nevada, a public university established in 1874 and located in Reno. The University's researchers are nationally recognized in civil engineering, and earthquake and large-scale structures testing and modeling. The University is also home to the Donald W. Reynolds School of Journalism, which has produced six Pulitzer Prize winners. Organizationally, Washoe County includes the County Commission, District Attorney, various other Boards and Commissions, and Citizen Advisory Boards (CAB).
