What Is WESCO Industries?

WESCO Industries is a private, not-for-profit rehabilitation facility that provides support to individuals with disabilities. Services are provided through continuing assessments and goal setting of the individuals served. WESCO supports individuals in achieving their potential for independence by providing the highest quality of services possible. West Central Iowa Sheltered Workshop (WCISW) began as a concept in 1965 when an initial feasibility study meeting was held. The study group determined by late 1966 that this Sheltered Workshop would serve the seven county area of Audubon, Carroll, Crawford, Harrison, Ida, Monona, and Shelby counties. Denison was selected as the site. Articles of Incorporation were signed and registered in September of 1966. Staff persons were hired and operations began in June of 1968. Initially two clients were present. A total of 14 clients were being served by November of 1968. Western Iowa Tech Community College employed a teacher and furnished materials for client education. By January of 1975, a total of 38 clients were being served. In December of 1979, plans were formulated to build the present facility. This building was finished in October of 1981. Approximately 65 clients were being served at that time, with plans to accommodate 100 clients in the future. WCISW was accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities in August of 1983. WCISW continues to be accredited and strives to provide the finest quality of service and care. In 1987, the Sheltered Workshop began doing business as WESCO Industries thus projecting more of a business image. WESCO Industries continues serving individuals with disabilities, of all ages, who require services and support in reaching their fullest potential. Presently, WESCO has grown to serve over 150 clients in a variety of programs
