Visual Collaboration Technologies was originally named VirtualE3D. It was founded in 2000 by a group of technology professionals with a vision to provide leading edge engineering services and software products for the science, engineering and manufacturing industries. The company's services quickly expanded into CAD conversion, modeling, analysis, design, customization, translation, 3D-Web, visualization, collaboration, e-manuals, e-catalogues, digital mockups, virtual prototyping and product life cycle management. Drawing from the diverse experiences in the CAD/CAM/CAE area and the founding partners' expertise in 3D visualization, the group identified that the main bottleneck in CAD/CAM/CAE effectiveness and cross-discipline collaboration is the lack of common communication format. Starting in 2002, VirtualE3D started an in-house R&D project to developed a high-performance, common visual platform for 3D CAD/CAM/CAE technology named VCollab. Subsequently, VirtualE3D was renamed Visual Collaboration Technologies Inc. in late 2004 after their first release of the VCollab product suite. To date, Visual Collaboration Technologies provides software product and services as well as consulting, outsourcing and customization. Headquartered in Detroit USA, VCollab has offices in Dallas and Bangalore, India as well as a worldwide distribution network.
